How we run the shop

  1. 01
    Orientation before operation
Before using any machine, you must complete a brief orientation with a staff member. This applies to everyone — regardless of experience. It takes about 15 minutes and covers the machine, the materials, and what to do if something goes wrong.
  2. 02
Leave it cleaner than you found it
Clean your workspace and any equipment immediately after use. Remove failed prints, wipe down surfaces, and dispose of scrap in the correct bins. A $10 cleaning fee applies if staff intervention is required.
  3. 03
    No unattended prints without approval
Don't start a long print job and leave the building without checking with staff. Long prints can be approved to run after hours on a case-by-case basis, but you need to ask first.
  4. 04
    Respect everyone's work and space
Don't touch other members' prints, materials, or belongings. Don't photograph other people's work without their permission — many members are working on proprietary ideas. Treat the space like a shared studio, not a library or a café.
  5. 05
    Guests are your responsibility
You're welcome to bring a friend. They may observe and keep you company, but they may not operate any equipment. You're fully responsible for their conduct while they're in the space.
  6. 06
No dedicated storage during Phase 1
We don't have lockers or designated personal workspaces right now. Don't leave materials or projects in common areas for more than 24 hours without checking with staff. Items left longer are subject to removal.
  7. 07
    Be a good neighbor
Use headphones for music. Take phone calls outside or in a quieter area. Keep your volume considerate. Harassment or discriminatory behavior of any kind will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate removal.

Safety guidelines

We take safety seriously — not because we have to, but because we want this space to be somewhere you feel comfortable bringing your kid, your client, or your most ambitious project. Here's how we keep it that way.

Required — no exceptions

Important — please follow

Good to know

Machine orientation is mandatory
No exceptions. Every member must complete a staff-led orientation before operating any machine — FDM printers, resin printers, CAD stations, and wash/cure stations each have their own brief checkout.

Eye protection for resin work
Safety glasses are required when handling uncured resin or during any wash/cure process. Uncured resin is a skin and eye irritant — we provide glasses, but you must wear them. Nitrile gloves are also required for resin handling.

Report damage or malfunctions immediately
If a machine behaves unexpectedly — unusual smell, sound, movement, or error — stop the print and tell a staff member right away. Please loop in one of the staff before attempting any repairs.

No flammable materials near equipment
Do not bring aerosols, acetone, or other flammable solvents into the print area without staff approval. All chemicals must be stored in appropriate sealed containers. A fire extinguisher is located near the entrance — please know where it is.

Ventilation is provided — use it
Our resin printing and post-processing areas are equipped with HEPA and activated carbon filtration. Work in those designated areas, not at your general workspace. If you ever notice an unusual odor, mention it to staff.

Don't reach into or over running machines
FDM printer hotends reach 200–280°C. Never reach into a printer while the head is moving. Pause or stop the print first. Resin is photosensitive — don't open vats in direct sunlight.

Dispose of resin waste correctly (coming soon)
Liquid resin cannot go in the trash or down the drain. Cure all liquid resin waste under a UV light until solid before disposal. We'll show you exactly how during your orientation — it takes 30 seconds.

FDM printing is beginner-friendly
Standard FDM printing with PLA is one of the safest fabrication processes around — no fumes, no sharp edges mid-print, and the machines stop automatically if they detect a heat fault. It's a great starting point if you're new.

First aid kit is on site
A fully stocked first aid kit is at the front counter. If you have a medical emergency, call 911 first, then notify staff. Our address is 243 North Ave, Wakefield, MA 01880.

Ask — we genuinely love questions
If you're unsure about anything — a material, a machine setting, a process — ask staff. There are no dumb questions here. We'd much rather spend five minutes explaining than deal with a botched print or a safety incident.
