Frequently asked questions
Where can I find 3d models?
- Many sites have 3d models available for free or cheap. Some notable options are Makerworld, Printables, Thingiverse, and Cults3D. You can also find free files of hardware on Mcmaster-Carr.
How can I design my own part?
- There are many CAD options out there. A popular free option for very basic designs is Tinkercad. For more complex designs we recommend Onshape, which also has a free account option. Neither of these require a powerful computer since they are cloud based. You'll also find many free tutorials on youtube, and on their respective sites.
What if I'm not sure about things like infill, file types, orientation, etc?
- Please feel free to fill out the form below or come to our shop and we'll be happy to explain everything!
Accepted File Types
STL, STEP, 3MF (Please make sure there is only one part in the 3MF File)
Model Size
Please review the print volumes for our printers (listed above). If your part is larger it will need to be split into sections.
Wall Thickness
Minimum 0.8mm recommended for most prints
Supports
By default, supports will be added to any features that overhang more than 45 degrees.
Print Orientation
Specify preferred orientation if strength or surface finish matters. You can do this by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.
Tolerance / Fit
Allow 0.2–0.3mm clearance for moving or fitted parts
File Naming
Use clear names (e.g., "gear_v2_final.stl")
Notes / Instructions
